Design Parcour
A design parcours for adults to interact, explore and assess the interactive stations designed for children. The aim was to display and have a narrative running through four different projects that were based around sensory obejcts.
We now had developed a circular narrative with objects we now had to develop a visual/spatial design to express this narrative and offer guidance in this exploration. In order to guide the participants in a circular fashion we needed to arrange the objects in a circular fashion. This was done by designing a octagonal plinth in centre. Each side either contained one object (one theme) or two objects (segue of themes). This guided the participants around the objects, observing the over arching circular narrative.
To keep the participants viewing the objects in circular fashion, we implemented 3 walls, which guided the viewer round the objects to view them holistically.
Above each object is a brief description of the theme or the crossover (depending on the side of the octagon), a sign saying ‘please interact with the objects’ and at the very front to the left is a large sign, exclaiming that this is an interactive exhibition.
Through form exploration an octagonal column was chosen to signal the intent of a cyclical path. The interactive space between the column and the walls invites and intentionally proposes a format for the participants to move around in a natural flow. A person will approach from the front of the enclosed space and become visually engaged with the first set of design objects. The angle of the octagonal shape provides a visual cue to see around the peripheral space to the next set of design objects, allowing for smooth transitions between stages.
